Acresford Mill

I think my friend Martin gave me a copy of this picture. I am guessing that it was taken around 1900 -1920.

Steam Mill

This was somewhere in Oakthorpe. Canal Street I believe. No idea who the lady is. Anyone have any information please feel free to add a comment or e-mail me direct.

Newspaper article

Not sure  which newspaper this comes from.  Not sure about the hand written date but it was obviously a while ago, both from the language used and the style of dress.  This story merits a bit of research if anyone has the time.

Donisthorpe Colliery

Not sure about the date of this photograph.  The handwritten comment on the back reads: Donisthorpe Colliery after alterations

Donisthorpe Railway Station

This photograph was obtained from The National Monuments Record, English Heritage. The photograph was taken by Rokeby, date unknown.  It is copyright Crown copyright NMR.  I went to the NMR in 1999/2000 ish and 'found' this photograph. You will notice that Ramscliffe Avenue did not exist at the time the photograph was taken.  Any ideas, just let me know.

Welcome

Back at the turn of the century I created a website for the Parish of Oakthorpe, Donisthorpe and Acresford.  That site is long gone. However, I still have various photographs and accounts that document the history of the parish.  Rather than leave them in a box somewhere I have started this blog in order to publish the various bits  that I have.  They will be published as and when I get the opportunity, in no particular order. The usual disclaimer applies in that if you own copyright etc. and want me to remove anything please let me know.  Also any comments and/or contributions are also welcome. This blog is not endorsed by the Parish Council.
