Donisthorpe Railway Station

These two photographs have been around for a long time.  For those unaware of the location of Donisthorpe Station, if you look at the top photograph, The row of houses in the background are still standing.  To the right of those houses today is the gate to Donisthorpe County Park.

Lancaster Bale Out

Now available from Amazon, where it has 5 star reviews, this is primarily the story of Fred Smooker.  It is of interest locally because one of his fellow crew members - Sgt Wilfred Bailey - was a local man. His name appears on the Donisthorpe War Memorial opposite the cemetery.

Oakthorpe Parade - 1940's

This picture was sent to me by Michael Baxter last October. His brother David also emailed (sorry for the very long delay, work has been hectic these last few months!). His email went on to say:

I lived at the top of Canal Street as a boy and remember being taken down to the Steam Mill by my uncle who had a chat with, I think, the owner or someone who worked there. I don't know who the woman is but my other uncle is still alive and may know as he and his family lived in Oakthorpe. The attached shows a parade in Oakthorpe in the 1940's - my grandma is the one in the bowler hat pushing the pram - she's meant to be Winston Churchill

Thank you both for getting in touch and allowing me to share the photograph.
